What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment?
Plasma is the main component of blood. It’s a colorless fluid that carries your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets around your body. Platelets are small blood cells that contain proteins and growth factors. They repair damaged blood vessels by forming a clot to stop the bleeding.
A small amount of blood is drawn and spun to produce platelet-rich plasma in a centrifuge. This causes the platelets and plasma to separate out creating platelet-rich plasma. Benefit: Normally only one injection is needed and it does not take much time to do the procedure and can be done as an outpatient procedure. The effects can last up to 6 months.
